How to fix iPhone 12 Pro charging issues

Last Updated: August 2, 2021 by Dave Johnson

You plugged in your iPhone 12 Pro but it doesn’t seem to be charging. There are four components to your iPhone that could be the culprit: the USB cable, the charger (or power adapter), the charging port or the iPhone itself. Here’s a breakdown of the most common reasons your iPhone 12 Pro won’t charge (and how to fix the problem!)

To pinpoint why your iPhone 12 Pro isn’t charging and fix it, you’ll need to do some troubleshooting.

Here are six ways to test and check why your iPhone 12 Pro won’t charge.

It can be stressful when your iPhone 12 Pro dies, but even more stressful when you plug it in and find that it won’t charge.

When this happens with iPhone 12 Pro, it could be for a few different reasons. There may be an external issue, like a bad power outlet or worn charging cable. It may also be an internal problem like a software glitch.

Accordingly, you’ll likely have to try a few different troubleshoot methods until the problem is solved.

How to fix your iPhone 12 Pro when it won’t charge

If you find your iPhone charging slowly, here are six potential fixes you can try yourself.

Try a different power outlet

Before you assume that something is wrong with your phone, make sure it’s not the outlet your device is plugged into that’s causing iPhone 12 Pro charging issue. It could be switched off, or you could have blown a circuit.

If you’re charging your iPhone from a computer’s USB port, make sure the computer is fully awake (not in sleep or hibernation mode). Also try a different USB port, in case the USB port you were using has failed. Don’t try charging from a USB port built into a keyboard or USB hub connect it directly to a USB port on the computer itself.

Check your iPhone’s charging cable

Charger cables go through a lot. They’re rolled, unrolled, bent, frayed, shoved into bags and pockets. It’s easy for them to become worn over time and, eventually, break entirely.

Inspect your charging cable and look for any fraying or damage to the wire. Also, look at both ends, ensuring that nothing is stuck inside, and nothing is bent out of shape. If it is, try a different cable if you have one.

Test your iPhone’s wall adapter

If there’s nothing wrong with the cable, the charger could still be the problem. Look at the wall adapter and make sure the cable is plugged totally into the port. If that’s not the issue, next inspect it and make sure nothing is stuck inside and that none of the pieces are bent.

If you can’t see anything wrong with it, either test your charge with a different adapter or, if you don’t have a spare, plug your cable into your computer. If your iPhone begins charging, then the adapter was to blame.

Check your iPhones Lightning port

If your iPhone 12 Pro isn’t charging the way it usually does, your next stop should be to inspect the Lightning port. This is a lot more common than you might think. After all, we spend a lot of time jamming the phone port-end first into pockets, bags, and other places filled with dust, debris, and lint.

Look carefully, and if you see anything, carefully remove it gently with a toothpick or any other non-metallic, pointed object that will fit in the port. If you have a can of compressed air, briefly blast the port with that as well.

Try to charge your phone again. If it still doesn’t work, move on to the next troubleshooting step.

Try restarting your iPhone

Your issues may not be anything serious. They could be a minor bug that will fix itself with a quick reboot. You may also be running apps or games in the background that are draining your battery faster than it can charge. A simple restart should fix this.

To restart your iPhone 12 Pro, hold down the side button and either the volume until the Power off slider appears. Then drag the slider.

Update iOS

If you’re running an older version of iOS, it’s worth upgrading to see if that helps with iPhone 12 Pro charging issues. Go to settings > general > Software Update.

Take your iPhone in for service

If none of these troubleshooting steps fixed your iPhone 12 Pro charging issues, it’s pretty likely that there’s something wrong with the phone itself. You should contact Apple support or go to an Apple store for service.

Have you tried any of these methods? Do you have any other suggestions that might fix iPhone 12 Pro Charging Issues? If so, let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
