Why is iPhone 14 pro not making or receiving calls?

This could be for a wide range of reasons: an iOS glitch or a poor network signal are just a few. Regardless, it’s usually a quick fix to get your iPhone 14 Pro making or receiving calls again, so don’t start panicking just yet. Have a look at these potential fixes.

How to fix iPhone 14 Pro not making or receiving calls

Since the possible causes of iPhone 14 Pro not making or receiving calls have been identified, you can follow the solutions below to fix the issue. Note: the following solutions apply to iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

1. Try moving your location

If your iPhone 14 Pro won’t make or receive calls, it’s possible that you’re in a location that has poor service — good enough that your phone thinks it has cellular service, hence you’ll see a bar or two of signal strength at the top of your phone – but bad enough that it can’t actually complete a connection. If you’re indoors, go outside, or otherwise try to change your location and see if you can make or receive calls.

2. Toggle Airplane mode

One of the most common reasons your iPhone 14 can’t make or receive calls is because of a glitch with your cellular connection. You can generally fix this by toggling it off and then back on again. To do this, enable Airplane Mode.

  1. Swipe down from the top right of the screen to bring up the Control Center.
  2. Tap the Airplane mode icon at the top left, and then wait about 30 seconds.
  3. Tap the Airplane mode icon again to re-enable your cellular network.

After it reconnects, try your call again.

3. Make sure Focus Mode is turned off

If your iPhone 14 Pro won’t receive calls, take a look at your Focus settings. If it’s on, switch it back off.

Open Control Center by swiping down from the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Tap on the Focus icon to turn it off.

4. Make sure call forwarding is turned off

Check your call forwarding settings by following the steps below:

  1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Phone.
  3. Select Call forwarding. If it’s turned on, shut it to resume receiving calls on your iPhone 14 Pro.

5. Check your blocked contacts

There’s also a chance that if a person is trying to get a hold of you and can’t their number might be blocked accidentally. You can check this by following the steps below:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap Phone.
  3. Select Blocked Contacts. If the person/number is added here, swipe right to left on it and tap on Unblock.

6. Turn Off “Silence Unknown Callers”

One reason why you have an iPhone call problem may be because your block unknown callers feature is turned on. This feature is great for stopping telemarketers and robocalls in their tracks, but unfortunately it also filters out some people that you actually do want to talk to.

To turn this off:

  1. Head over to Settings.
  2. Tap on Phone.
  3. Turn off the switch next to Silence Unknown Callers.

Once you’ve done that, your phone should be able to ring again when someone who isn’t in your contacts tries to call you.

7. Restart your iPhone

Sometimes, the problem of iPhone 14 Pro not making or receiving calls is related to a software problem on your phone but toggling Airplane mode didn’t do the trick. In a situation like this, try turning your iPhone off, wait a minute, and then turn it back on again. Restarting the phone can flush out any misbehaving software or corrupted data and restore it to full operation. As a reminder, here is how to restart your iPhone:

  1. Start the Settings ap on your iPhone.
  2. Navigate to General.
  3. Select Shut Down.

8. Did You call the Right Number?

Calling an inactive or unused numbers is a recipe for failure and frustration. When placing a call, make sure you enter the correct number.

This should be no problem when you call a contact stored on your iPhone, but it can require care when entering a new number. So take your time when entering numbers.

If you continue to have trouble, contact your intended recipient by other means to confirm the number.

This last point is important. Sometimes, your contacts may change their numbers, or their mobile operator may disconnect them. The issue may be with someone else’s phone and not yours.

9. Check for iOS Update

If you find your iPhone 14 Pro not able to make or receive calls after trying the above solutions, then checking for a software update would be the next logical step. New updates for iOS can iron out software issues and bugs. So if your iPhone 14 Pro still can’t make or receive calls, it’s a good idea to update.

To update, you need to have your iPhone 14 Pro connected to Wi-Fi and a power source. You should then follow these steps:

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Select Software Update.
  4. Tap Download and Install.

10. Check for Carrier Settings Updates

Before you begin, ensure that your iPhone is connected to a cellular network or Wi-Fi.

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Select About. If there is any update available, it should be visible. Click on it to update your carrier settings, then try to make calls again.

11. Remove Your SIM Card and then Reinsert It

Similar to the perennial reboot advice you get from IT departments, it’s usually worth removing your SIM card and reinserting it again. Doing this effectively de- and reactivates the card, hopefully removing any issues that were preventing your iPhone 14 Pro from making or receiving calls. As long

as you are careful, it’s not hard to remove the SIM card from your phone — pop it out, gently dust it off, and then place it back on its tray and re-insert it in your iPhone.

12. Is Your Mobile Plan Active?

If you find your iPhone 14 Pro not making calls after trying the above steps, you should check whether you currently have an active mobile service plan. If you don’t have one, you won’t be able to make calls. While the vast majority of phone plans offer standard unlimited calling, you might have exceeded your monthly limit of airtime if you have a limited plan.

In either case, you should contact your mobile carrier to ensure there are no issues with your account services.

13. Reset network settings

If you’ve tried everything else and your iPhone 14 Pro can’t make or receive calls, you might need to reset your phone’s network settings. Save this as a last resort, because this troubleshooting step will erase all your network settings, including saved Wi-Fi network passwords and paired Bluetooth devices, so in some ways it’ll be like you have a new iPhone again. But if you’re ready to try this fix, it might get your phone up and running again.

Here’s how to reset your iPhone 14 Pro network settings:

  1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Tap Reset Network Settings.

14. Factory reset your iPhone

If you’ve tried all of the above steps and your iPhone 14 Pro won’t make calls, you may want to consider a factory reset. This is basically the nuclear option as far as any problem or bug is concerned, but it can resolve issues in certain cases.

  1. Start the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Select Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. . Select Erase All Content and Settings.

It goes without saying but you should backup your iPhone before performing a factory reset.

15. iPhone 14 Pro still Not making or receiving calls? Get Professional Help

If your iPhone 14 Pro still won’t make or receive calls after all this, your last option is to contact your mobile operator. Try calling the customer service line. If they can’t help you, you should contact Apple support. After ruling everything else out, your iPhone may have some kind of hardware issue.

You may have to eventually replace the phone, but that should be the last case scenario.

Unfortunately, it can take a little bit of time to figure out exactly what the source of your calling issues may be. If you’re patient and willing to try a couple of different techniques, you should have no problem getting your iPhone 14 Pro making calls again.
