How To Fix iPhone 13 Pro Max Side Button Not Working (2022)

Last Updated: January 22, 2022 by iPhoneArena Staff

Is your iPhone 13 Pro Max Side button not working? You’ve come to the right place. In this article, I’ll explain exactly what to do when your iPhone 13 Pro Max side button is not working!

Many users rely on the side button to perform basic actions like waking the screen and using Siri. Since we interact with the Side button many times per day, the key can wear out over time.

If your iPhone 13 Pro Max power button is not working, then don’t rush to the Apple Store yet. If you’d like to know what to do when the side button on your iPhone 13 Pro Max won’t work, here are some tricks to help you fix the issue.

How to fix an iPhone 13 pro max side button that is not working

Note: the solutions explained on this article applies to iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

1. Reboot Your iPhone

If your iPhone 13 Pro Max Side button is not working, the First Troubleshooting step is to perform a simple reboot. This will restart all background services and refresh your device’s core components in case something had crashed or malfunctioned causing your iPhone 13 Pro Max Side button to stop working.

If the power button is not working on your iPhone 13 Pro Max, then you can restart your device through the Settings app.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Swipe down and tap Shut Down
  4. The Slide to Power Off screen will pop up. Drag the slider to the right and your iPhone will shut down.

If your iPhone 13 Pro Max Power button is broken and your device is off, you can’t easily jump into the Settings app to hit a switch. Fortunately, Apple has thought of this situation.

Turning your iPhone back on is simple: just plug it in to charge over USB. Your iPhone will start up a few seconds after it starts charging (as long as the battery isn’t dead, in which case it takes longer).

2. Clean the Gaps Around the Button

Your phone’s side button is regularly exposed to the outside world and all of its grime. It’s possible the gaps around them have accumulated some minute debris, which could hamper the internal connections.

While there’s not much you can do here without professional help, you have the option to blow canned air inside the potentially affected areas and clean it using a toothpick. Sometimes this will be enough to get it moving again.

3. Turn On AssistiveTouch On Your iPhone 13 Pro Max

If your iPhone 13 Pro Max side button is not working, AssistiveTouch is a fantastic temporary solution! The feature lets you replicate button actions so you can get by without using the physical keys.

If you’d like to be able to lock your iPhone 13 Pro Max screen (put it to sleep), take screenshots, and more and don’t have a working Side button, you can do that with AssistiveTouch on your screen.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Accessibility
  3. Tap Touch
  4. Select AssistiveTouch to turn this feature on.
  5. Once you have the floating home button on your screen, tap it
  6. Now, tap Device > Lock Screen.

4. Possibility of Water Damage? Let It Dry

In case your iPhone 13 Pro Max Side button have stopped working after a water accident, you shouldn’t do anything yet. First, you have to make sure your phone’s internals are completely dry.

There are various methods to save a phone dropped in water. Turn your device off immediately, let it completely dry out, and then you can start troubleshooting.

5. Repair Your iPhone With Apple

In most scenarios, you should be able to find a solution in at least one of the steps discussed. In particular, with the case of dead Side button, the Assistivetouch feature should do the trick.

Your last resort, of course, is to visit the nearest Apple Store and get professional help. As long as there’s no water damage and your phone is under warranty, it hopefully won’t cost you anything.
