How to Fix iPhone 13 Pro Max Camera Not Working issue

1. Restart the camera app

After a long period of use, the Camera app might get corrupted and stop working. Whether your iPhone 13 Pro Max camera is frozen or not loading correctly, quitting the application could be all you need to do.

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold your finger on the screen until you see a preview of all the open apps.
  2. Find the Camera app and swipe up on it so that it disappears.

2. Restart your iPhone

If restarting the camera app does not fix your iPhone 13 Pro Max camera not working issue, restarting the device can sometimes resolve the problem.

  1. Hold down the Side and either of the volume buttons.
  2. Drag the Power off slider to turn off your iPhone.

3. Check App Permission

A common mistake we’ve seen iPhone 13 Pro Max owners make is assuming the iPhone 13 Pro Max camera is broken, when it really just needs to get your authorization to connect to an app. Most apps need permission to connect to your camera for data marketing purposes.

To double-check that this feature is working:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on Privacy.
  3. Tap on Camera.
  4. You will see a list of apps.
  5. Make sure the app you want to use is toggled to “ON”.

4. Update IOS

An iPhone 13 Pro Max with an outdated IOS can cause problems that may result in the camera not working. Updating the IOS to the latest version fixes the conflict between the operating system and the hardware.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Tap on Software Update.

Note: If no update is available, you can rule this out as the reason for your iPhone 13 Pro Max camera not working.

5. Reset All Settings

If you’ve updated your IOS (or found there was no IOS available update) and the iPhone 13 Pro Max camera is still not working, a reset of your settings could offer a fresh start to your device. Follow these steps to reset all settings:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Tap on Reset.
  5. Tap on Reset All Settings.

Note: This option only erases your settings. All of your saved files and other personal data will still be available upon restarting the device.

6. Remove any lens obstruction

Lens obstruction is one of the more common reasons why your iPhone 13 Pro Max camera isn’t taking pictures. First, make sure your hand or fingers aren’t blocking the lens. It’s easy to do, especially when you’re excited to capture that perfect shot. Second, check if your phone case is wholly or partially blocking the lens. Some cases can be installed upside down on the iPhone.

7. Clean the camera lens

Many of us shove our phones into pockets and bags with the lens exposed to whatever is lurking there. Take a clean microfiber cloth and wipe the lens. A dirty lens can also affect focus and cause your pictures to be blurry. So, if you have blurry photos or your iPhone 13 Pro Max camera does not focus properly, a quick wipe could fix all that ails your phone.

8. Avoid overheating

When an iPhone gets too hot, things malfunction. If your iPhone 13 Pro Max is overheating, you should see an on-screen message stating the iPhone needs to cool down before you use it. If you see this message, turn off your iPhone for a few minutes to give it a chance to cool. If you haven’t seen this message but your iPhone feels hot to the touch, power it off.

Even as few as 10 minutes can make a difference in the temperature of your phone. However, if it begins to overheat again for no apparent reason, go to your local Apple Store or the Apple Support website for repair or replacement details.

9. Confirm the flash is turned on

Problems with the camera flash can be caused by either hardware or software. To check the software, make sure you haven’t turned off the flash in the Camera app. Look to the right of the lightning bolt at the top of the screen, and make sure that On is highlighted.

Once you confirm it’s on, test the flash by turning on the flashlight. If it’s still not working, a trip to the Apple Store for further diagnostics is needed.

10. When All Else Fails, Contact Apple Support

If you’ve tried the solutions above, and your iPhone 13 Pro Max Camera won’t work, your device may be having a hardware failure. At this point, your best chance to get your device working is to locate the nearest Apple Store. Apple store employees can help determine what the underlying issue is with your iPhone. If you don’t have an Apple Store nearby, you can also chat with Apple online for support.
