Why is FaceTime not working on iPhone 12 Pro Max?

There are many reasons why FaceTime is not working on your iPhone 12 Pro Max. If you bought your iPhone in a certain country, such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Dubai, and the United Arab Emirates, FaceTime app might not appear. If the FaceTime app isn’t available on your iPhone 12 Pro Max, it seems there is nothing you can do except finding the alternative app. The issue can also occur if you are traveling out of your country and it changing the date and time settings on your iPhone. Switching a FaceTime call to a phone call or a FaceTime audio call can cause problems with FaceTime. If you are experiencing FaceTime not working on iPhone 12 Pro Max issue right now, you can follow the steps below to fix the problem.

Ways to fix FaceTime not working on iPhone 12 Pro Max

Check if FaceTime is Available in Your Country

FaceTime is available almost everywhere in the world. Well, we say almost because there are some countries that do not yet support the feature, including some in the Middle East. Particularly, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, and Qatar do not support FaceTime. Also, if you purchased your iPhone in any of these regions, you won’t be able to use it in a country where it’s available either.

The only way around that is to use a VPN and to choose a different region when setting up or configuring your iPhone, but that may not be an option for everyone.

Check Apple Servers

Sometimes even Apple goes down.

So it’s a good idea to check in with Apple’s System Status to see if there are any on-going service issues with FaceTime and associated services like iMessage and iCloud.

Toggle FaceTime

Head to Settings, scroll down and tap FaceTime and turn it off. Wait for a few seconds, then turn it on again.

Check The Internet Connection

Unlike regular phone calls, FaceTime connects to other people over the internet. If you find FaceTime not connecting on iPhone 12 Pro Max, load a fresh webpage on your device to test the internet connection.

FaceTime works best over Wi-Fi, but you can also use it with your cellular data on an iPhone. To use FaceTime without Wi-Fi, head to Settings > Cellular and turn on the FaceTime slider to let it use cellular data.

Refresh your internet connection by disabling and then re-enabling WiFi. Head to Settings > Wi-Fi and toggle it off. Wait 30 seconds and toggle it back on.

Alternatively, if you are using FaceTime over cellular data, head to Settings > Cellular and toggle Cellular Data off and on.

Check date And Time

If the time and date on your iPhone are wrong, it may cause problems with FaceTime. We recommend that you set the date and time automatically if FaceTime keeps failing on your iPhone, 12 Pro. Most of us do this anyway, but you should make sure it’s enabled in the settings on your iPhone. To check and set it, go to Settings > General > Date and Time. Then, choose Set Automatically.

Restart IPhone

One of the best troubleshooting tips for any app is to restart your iPhone; this advice is the same for when FaceTime isn’t working on iPhone 12 Pro. It’s best to close all your apps first to make sure you don’t lose any unsaved progress and to ensure they start fresh after restarting.

To restart iPhone 12 Pro, go to settings > General > shut down. Wait until the phone turns off completely. Leave it off for at least 30 seconds before you turn it back on.

Restart Your Router Or Modem

To restart your router and modem, unplug it from the power outlet. Let it sit like that for a minute and turn it On again.

Check for iOS update

Certain firmware versions of iOS may have wireless connectivity issues that could prevent you from using FaceTime properly. This is more likely to happen if you’re on a public or developer beta version of iOS, but Apple usually issues a hotfix with another update. So, make sure your iPhone is running the latest iOS version by going to Settings > General > Software Update. If you do have a pending update, you’ll be notified here and you can tap on “Install Now” to begin the update process.

Check The Blocked List

If have a problem when using FaceTime to chat with your friends or colleagues, make sure their numbers are not blocked. Head to Settings > FaceTime > Blocked contacts. See if they are listed here or not.

Reset Network Settings

If you find FaceTime not working on iPhone 12 Pro Max, the issue may be related to network settings. However, this can be easily resolved by resetting your network settings. Be mindful that you’ll lose your saved Bluetooth connections, Wi-Fi networks and passwords once you reset these settings. To do this, head over to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.

What to do if FaceTime stuck on signing in?

The issue may not only appear to the users that have already activated FaceTime before. Many iPhone 12 Pro Max users have been reporting their FaceTime stuck on waiting for activation when they try to sign in for the first time. If you are experiencing this problem during the activation of FaceTime, these solutions might help you.

There are many things you can do to troubleshoot this issue, and I will list them in the order they should be performed.

  • Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi or cellular
  • Turn airplane mode on and off
  • Check the date and time
  • Turn off FaceTime, then restart your iPhone
  • Reset network settings
  • Put your SIM card in a different phone, then reset that phone
  • Wait 24 hours
  • Update to the latest version of iOS
  • Reset all content and settings

By now, you should have gotten FaceTime to work on your iPhone 12 Pro Max. If not, it’s likely that you’re trying to contact someone who lives in a country where FaceTime is unavailable or their devices aren’t updated yet. There’s also a slim chance that the person you’re attempting to start a FaceTime call with has switched to a non-Apple device.

If none of the above troubleshooting methods fixed your iPhone 12 Pro Max FaceTime issues, you might want to get in touch with Apple Support or figure out how to talk to a live person at Apple for further assistance and try to resolve the problem at the earliest.
