If your iPhone camera isn’t taking pictures, don’t panic just yet. Many people assume that there must be a problem with the lenses or sensors when their iPhone camera is not working, but that’s not necessarily true. A lot of the time, this problem is caused by an issue with the software! After all, the Camera app is just like any other iPhone app — it can crash!

Follow the step-by-step guide below to diagnose and fix the real reason why your iPhone camera won’t work in iOS 16.

How to fix iPhone camera not working after iOS 16 update

If your iPhone camera appear black, blurry, or totally frozen after installing the iOS 16 beta, follow the steps below to fix the problem:

1. Switch cameras

Toggling from the forward-facing to the rear-facing camera usually resets the Camera app, bringing the view through the selected lens back into focus.

  1. Launch the Camera app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap the Flip camera button to switch between the front-facing FaceTime and rear-facing cameras.

2. Close Every App On Your iPhone

It’s possible your iPhone camera has stopped working after iOS 16 update because the Camera app, or a different app, has crashed. When an app crashes on your iPhone, it can lead to all sorts of problems on your iPhone, especially if its left open and running in the background.

Double-tap the home button on an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus, or swipe up from the bottom of your screen on an iPhone X, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 to bring up the app switcher. Then, swipe all your apps up and off the top of the screen to close them. This will usually get the camera app to work properly.

3. Restart your iPhone

If the camera app is still glitchy after trying the above solution, shut your iPhone down and wait a minute, then power it on and try again. . A good reboot of the hardware fixes an array of issues and could be what your iPhone needs. After all, a reboot refreshes the device’s memory and clears caches. Here’s how:

Go to settings > General > Shut Down.

4. Update iOS

If restarting your iPhone didn’t fix the iOS 16 camera problem, try updating it. . Not only do new versions of iOS beta patch previous issues, but they also make your phone more secure and less vulnerable to security exploits. Here’s how:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

5. Remove Your iOS 16 device From Its Case

Did you accidentally put your iPhone case on upside down? If you did, it may be the reason why the camera isn’t working. It may sound silly, but it’s relatively easy to put your iPhone case on the wrong way.

6. Clean Off The Camera

Dust or dirt can accumulate on the lens of the camera, making it appear broken when you open the Camera app. It’s a good idea to regularly wipe off your iPhone with a microfiber cloth to keep it clean!

7. Watch Out For Third-Party Camera Apps

If you’re partial to any third-party iPhone apps that access your camera, it’s possible that one of them is the root of the problem. Compared to the native iPhone Camera app, third-party apps are much more prone to crashing.

If you are using a third-party camera app to take pictures or record videos try switching back to the native Camera app and check if your problem is solved.
