Last Updated: September 24, 2022 by Moses Gitari

If your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are not working, then that’s bad. An iPhone 14 Pro with broken volume buttons can be annoying to deal with. As usual, iPhoneArena has your back on this issue. Here are nine troubleshooting tips to get your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons working again. You can thank us later.

Many users rely on the volume buttons to adjust volume on iPhone. Since we interact with the volume buttons many times per day, the keys can wear out over time.

If your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are not working, then don’t rush to the Apple Store yet. If you’d like to know what to do when the volume buttons on your iPhone 14 Pro won’t work, here are the best solutions to help you fix the issue.

How to fix an iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons that are not working

Note, the solutions in this article applies to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

1. iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons not working? Reboot Your device

First on the troubleshooting list is to restart your device. Your non-functioning volume buttons might just have a few gremlins in the system, which will be flushed out with a system reboot. It’s worth a shot — a surprising number of tech issues are successfully solved by turning it off and then back on again.

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Swipe down and tap Shut Down
  4. The Slide to Power Off screen will pop up. Drag the slider to the right and your iPhone will shut down.

Now turn on your iPhone back on and check if volume buttons are working.

2. iPhone 14 Pro Volume Buttons Stuck? Clean the Gaps Around the Buttons

If you have your iPhone in your pocket regularly, then it’s probable that the volume buttons are stuck with pocket gunk. You know, bits of skin, dust, lint, and whatever else you’ve got going on there in your pocket. Press down on your buttons a few times to check if your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are stuck. If they’re stuck or don’t seem to click down, you might need to clean them.

To clean your buttons, take a cotton swab and dip it in isopropyl alcohol. The best option for cleaning electronics is 99 percent isopropyl alcohol as it dries quickly and doesn’t contain much water. It also removes dirt and grime by breaking up oils.

Use the cotton swab to clean around your volume button the best you can. If you can push down on the buttons, doing so might help you clean it better. There’s no need to overdo it with the alcohol, as it doesn’t take much to work.

After cleaning, wait 15 minutes for the alcohol to try. If your volume buttons are working now, great! If they are only working a bit better, that’s a sign that they were dirty and you should keep cleaning them.

You can also clean your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons by simply blowing into them really hard. Alternatively, get a can of compressed air and give those buttons a good blast. Maybe also consider cleaning your pockets on a more regular basis?

3. Use The Volume Slider In The Settings App

If your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are jammed or broken, you may feel like you’re in a sticky situation when it comes to adjusting your phone’s volume. Thankfully, the iPhone’s Settings app includes volume controls for ringer and alert sounds. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics
  3. Drag the “Ringer and Alerts” slider to the right. This increases the volume of the ringer and notifications sounds on your iPhone.

4. Turn On Change With Buttons

Are you trying to increase or decrease the ringer volume on your iPhone 14 Pro using the volume buttons? Well, make sure Change with Buttons is turned on. Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Tap on Sounds & Haptics.
  3. Turn on change with buttons.

5. Turn On AssistiveTouch On Your iPhone 14 Pro

If your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are not working, AssistiveTouch is a fantastic temporary solution! The feature lets you replicate button actions so you can get by without using the physical keys.

If you’d like to be able to adjust volume and don’t have a working Side button, you can do that with AssistiveTouch on your screen.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Accessibility
  3. Tap Touch
  4. Select AssistiveTouch to turn this feature on.
  5. Once you have the floating home button on your screen, tap it
  6. Now, tap Device. You’ll see an option to adjust the volume up or down, just like you can do with functional volume buttons!

6. Restore Your iPhone

Sometimes, firmware updates can change how the buttons on our phones work. If you recently updated your iPhone 14 Pro and the volume buttons stopped working, you might need to reset your device. This means backing up your iPhone and erasing all the content settings. A full reset might also work if your iPhone 14 Pro volume button stopped working after an app download or a jailbreak attempt.

To do this, first, you’ll need to back up your device. Then you will go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.

This will wipe your phone clean and essentially make it like new. Before restoring a backup, go into the device and test the volume buttons. If they work, restore your backup.

There are some cases where restoring your backup might make them not work again. If that’s the case, it might have been an app you tried to download or your backup could be corrupted. Sadly, this means starting from scratch, unless you have an older backup you can try restoring.

If your photos and contacts are in iCloud you won’t need to transfer those over manually.

7. Update Your iPhone to the Latest Version of iOS

While updating your phone can sometimes cause a problem of iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons not working, not updating can also cause problems. Outdated iPhones might not work with the latest apps and the volume controls might not work correctly as a result.

There’s also a possibility that a previous Apple update you installed is buggy, and updating again could fix the problem.

To be safe, try updating your device to see if this works. You can update your device by going to Settings > General > Software Update. Here, you can see if a new update is available or if your device is up to date.

8. Possibility of Water Damage? Let It Dry

In case your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons have stopped working after a water accident, you shouldn’t do anything yet. First, you have to make sure your phone’s internals are completely dry.

There are various methods to save a phone dropped in water. Turn your device off immediately, let it completely dry out, and then you can start troubleshooting.

9. iPhone 14 Pro Volume Buttons Not Working? Contact Apple Support for repair or replacement

If your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are still not working, it’s time to admit defeat and turn to Apple for assistance. If you’ve come this far, your problem is likely a hardware one, and only Apple can fix that. Schedule an appointment at the local Apple store and have them take a look at your iPhone. As long as there’s no water damage and your phone is under warranty, it hopefully won’t cost you anything.

Fixed iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons not working issue

It can be annoying if your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons are not working. Luckily, the solutions mentioned above will fix your iPhone 14 Pro volume buttons in most cases, and you’ll be able to change your volume again in no time.
