Why is iPhone 14 Pro Camera not working?

There are several reasons why the iPhone 14 Camera may not be working. These include:

  • Your iPhone’s camera is blocked by a case.
  • The camera lens of your iPhone is dirty.
  • Your iPhone has a software bug.
  • Your iPhone has a hardware glitch.

Note: instructions explained in this article apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

How to fix an iPhone 14 Pro camera that’s not working

If you find your iPhone 14 Pro camera not working, try the following troubleshooting tips. Test your iPhone camera again after each of the tips below.

1. Make sure your iPhone’s camera isn’t blocked

I’m almost sure you have checked this. But still, in case you haven’t, please ensure a cover or an unusual waterproof iPhone case isn’t covering the camera module.

If your iPhone 14 Pro camera is showing a black screen instead of the viewfinder, please double-check to make sure that the case is installed correctly! If your case is upside down, it could be blocking the camera on your iPhone.

If everything looks okay, move on to the next solution.

2. restart the camera app

In rare cases, the iPhone 14 Pro camera app may not work due to a minor glitch. To fix this, simply exit your camera app for a short amount of time before opening it again. To do this, open the app switcher (by swiping up from the bottom of your screen, and swiping up on the Camera app card.

Now open the camera app and check if it’s working properly. If this doesn’t fix your iPhone 14 Pro camera problem, move on to the next solution.

3. Restart your iPhone

When you encounter camera issues on your iPhone 14 Pro, try to restart your phone. . Many software problems and bugs can be fixed by simply restarting the device. This resets some of the temporary settings that cause apps and features to malfunction. To do this, go to Settings > General > Shut Down. Leave your phone off for 30 seconds to a minute before turning it back on. Then check to see if the problem is resolved. Even if it works, this solution may be temporary. If you still experience iPhone 14 Pro camera issues, then try another solution below.

4. Perform a hard reset

A basic restart sometimes isn’t enough to fix the iPhone 14 Pro camera problem. In some cases, you may need to do what’s known as a hard reset, which is a more powerful reset. So, in case a simple restart doesn’t fix the issue, go ahead and force restart your iPhone.

Press and quickly release the volume up button. Then, press and quickly release the volume down button. After that, press and hold the side button until the Apple logo comes up on the screen.

If force restarting your phone hasn’t fixed your iPhone 14 Pro camera issues, try the next solution.

5. Switch cameras

Toggling from the forward-facing to the rear-facing camera usually resets the Camera app, bringing the view through the selected lens back into focus.

6. Check for iOS update

Apple regularly push software updates to add new features and fix any intermittent bugs or issues with the iPhone. In case your iPhone 14 Pro camera continues to malfunction, check and update your device to the latest version to resolve any firmware-related issues.

To check if you have any pending updates, follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Here, tap on Software Update.
  4. Your iPhone will automatically begin to check for updates. After a moment, your iPhone will notify if you already have the latest version, or there’s a pending update.
  5. Update your iPhone if needed and check to see if your camera works normally afterward.

7. Clean the camera lens

You may think your iPhone 14 Pro camera is broken—especially if the images are turning out fuzzy—when it really just needs a good cleaning. Be sure to regularly (and gently) wipe both the rear and front-facing lenses on your device with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any dust or grime. For more stubborn debris, spritz the cloth with a mild lens cleaner, then gently dab the lens clean.

If you see dirt or debris inside the lens, or if the lens appears to be damaged, take your iPhone to an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider for a repair.

8. Check your app permissions

When your iPhone 14 Pro camera doesn’t work while you’re using a third-party app, you may think the app is to blame. But it’s possible that you never granted it permission to use your camera. Here’s how to check:

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
On the list of apps, make sure the app you want to use is switched on.

9. Reset all iPhone settings

Resetting the iPhone to factory default is the sort of solution that comes in handy when dealing with persistent issues. Since it has always been like a go-to troubleshooter for fixing major software-related issues, it’s worth trying out as well.

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. This doesn’t delete any of your content—such as photos or apps—but it does reset all your iPhone settings.

10. Factory Reset Your iPhone

The last option to fix camera crashing or not working issues on iPhone 14 Pro is to perform a factory reset. This will erase all the data and reset your iPhone to factory default settings, as it was the time you unboxed it. It’ll retain all the installed software updates, though.

To perform a factory reset:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Here, tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Now, tap on Erase all content and settings.
  5. If asked, enter your passcode to confirm.

11. iPhone 14 Pro camera not working still? Contact Apple

If you’ve tried everything above and your front or back iPhone 14 Pro camera is still not working, there is a good chance that the issue could be related to hardware. And in this situation, you should contact Apple Support to arrange a repair at the Apple Store or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
