If you’ve ever said the horrifying words, “my iPhone 12 mini is frozen”, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Continue reading and we’ll show you how to fix your buggy phone.

1. Perform a Soft Reset to fix frozen iPhone 12 mini

Many times, performing a soft reset is enough to fix your frozen iPhone 12 mini. With that said, a soft reset is definitely more of a band-aid than a solution.

In the iPhone’s manual, a soft reset is referred to as a “restart”. Doing this will turn off the phone’s power and quit all running apps. The phone will then turn back on a few moments later.

To restart the iPhone 12 mini, press and hold down the side button and either of the volume buttons. The power off slider will appear. Drag the slider to turn off your iPhone.

To power your device back on, press and hold down the side button. Hold this down until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

2. Perform a Hard Reset to fix frozen iPhone 12 mini

If your phone won’t respond to a soft reset, the next step is to perform a hard reset. Like the soft reset, a hard reset won’t necessarily fix the underlying problem in your phone. But it is likely to help unfreeze it.

To perform a hard reset on the iPhone 12 mini, press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, press and hold the side button until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.

3. Charge your iPhone

It’s possible that charging your phone for a short time can revive it. For the best results, plug your phone directly into a power adapter – avoid charging it wirelessly or plug it into a computer’s USB port. Let it charge for at least one hour and then try to use it again.

4. Update iOS to fix frozen iPhone 12 mini

A flaw in the system software can cause sporadic and unpredictable problems. Updating to the current version of iOS resolves any systemic problems identified by the developers. Go to Settings > General > Software update.

5. Update iOS apps

A bug in an app can affect a device’s available memory or performance. The best software developers maintain their software and publish periodic updates. Configure your iPhone to automatically check for app updates or update apps on your iPhone manually. Go to App Store > your Profile > Update all.

6. Force the iOS app to close

This procedure works when an app is stuck in an unusable state—you tap it, and it doesn’t open or doesn’t respond. Much like on a computer, forcing an app to close stops the app so you can start it again.

On iOS, you shouldn’t need to quit apps often. iOS pays attention to which apps should be running and stops apps that don’t require as much of the device’s resources.

7. Reinstall iOS

As a last resort before contacting Apple Support, you can try updating or restoring iOS. This is a good option if your iPhone successfully restarts but can’t get past the Apple logo. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Connect your iPhone to a computer and start iTunes.
  2. Put your iPhone in recovery mode following these steps:
Press and release the volume up button, press and release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button. Hold the side button until you see the recovery mode screen, which has a lightning connector and iTunes logo.
  3. When you see the option to restore or update your iPhone on your computer, click Update . iTunes will update the phone without deleting your apps and data. Do not choose Restore , which will erase all of your data.
  4. If the Update doesn’t work, your final option is to choose Restore . This option will restore your iPhone to its factory settings.

Important: If you choose Restore, iOS will be reinstalled and all of your data will be erased. You will, however, have an opportunity to restore a backup from iCloud. For this reason, it’s important to back up your data .

8. Contact Apple support

If you still have had no luck reviving your frozen iPhone 12 mini, you should contact Apple support.
