Airplane Mode Icon won’t Go Away on iPhone 12 or 12 Pro? Fix

Several iPhone owners have reported that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro appears to be in Airplane Mode even when they haven’t activated it. Users have also stated they see the Airplane icon in the top corner of the display even when Airplane Mode is turned off. In addition, some users have stated that they see no other status symbols and icons (Wi-Fi, signal bars, battery, etc) at the status bar except the Airplane icon. In this article, i’ll explain how you can fix Airplane mode issues on iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro for good!

When your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro is stuck on Airplane mode, your iPhone’s ability to connect to cellular, WiFi networks or Bluetooth is disable. Consequently, you can’t make or receive calls, send texts, or browse the internet.

You can still use your phone, however: you can take photos, listen to music, play games, or compose emails/messages to send later. Basically anything that doesn’t require a signal or internet.

If your iPhone is stuck on airplane mode, follow the troubleshooting steps below to fix the issue. The tips explained on this article applies to iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max that is stuck on airplane mode.

Fixes for iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro stuck on Airplane mode

Toggle Airplane Mode.

Refreshing Airplane mode can get your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro out of Airplane mode freeze. Go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode. Wait 30 seconds. Then turn off Airplane Mode.

Restart your iPhone

If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro is in Airplane mode even when you haven’t activated it, restarting your device may fix your issue. Here is how you can restart your iPhone:

Press and hold the side button and the volume down (or up) button together until the “slide to power off” screen appear on the screen. Drag the slider from left to right. Wait a few seconds for your iPhone to fully turn off. Then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Now check if the Airplane appears. If you’re still seeing the Airplane, move on to the next solution.

Update your iPhone

If Airplane mode icon won’t go away on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro, make sure that your device is running the latest version of iOS. Apple uses software updates to introduce new features, bug fixes, security patches, and other optimizations. To check for an iOS update, go to Settings > General > Software Update. If there is an update available, follow the onscreen prompts to update your iPhone.

Update your carrier settings.

If your iPhone can connect to internet, check to see if there is a carrier update and if there is an update, install it. Here is how:

Go to Settings > General > About. A popup will appear if there is an update available saying “Carrier Settings Update. New settings are available. Would you like to update them now?” Tap Update.

Force-restart your iPhone

If you find Airplane mode icon not going away on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro, try to force restart your device. Force-restarting your device may solve unusual problems like this. This is a good idea if a simple restart does not fix your issue. Here is how:

Press and quickly release the volume up button. Press and quickly release the volume down button. Press and hold the power button (side) until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Reset Network Settings

If you are still experiencing the problem of Airplane mode icon not going away on iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro, you may want to reset your network settings. Please note that resetting network settings will erase your Wi-Fi, APN, VPN, and other network settings. Here is how:

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
