Is your iPhone 14 Pro podcast app crashing? Here’s how to fix the issue.
If Podcasts app is crashing on your iPhone 14 Pro, you’ll have trouble streaming, downloading, or accessing content. Thankfully, there are a few general things you can do to troubleshoot. Starting from the easiest steps, and ending with the nuclear option, here are some things you can do to troubleshoot issues with the Podcasts app on your iPhone 14 Pro.
Note: information in this article apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
1. Restart the Apple Podcasts app
If the Podcasts app is completely unresponsive, then your best bet is to kill it using the app switcher: swipe up from the bottom of the screen, find the Podcast app and flick up towards the top of the screen until the app disappears completely. You can now try restarting it again.
2. Turn on and off Airplane Mode
Occasionally the Podcast app will crash immediately upon opening, and in this case killing the app is unlikely to resolve the issue. You can try putting your device into Airplane Mode (swipe down from upper right corner of the screen to reveal Control Center, then hit the airplane icon), then launching the podcasts app to see if the issue is limited to connectivity, web content, or a certain part of the app. Just turn Airplane Mode off to reconnect.
3. Check for a Podcasts outage
Before you try more complex or time-consuming troubleshooting steps, it’s a good idea to determine if the Podcasts app is down on Apple’s end, in which case you simply need to wait for service to be restored. There’s nothing you can do about it.
The easiest way to check on Podcasts is to visit Apple’s system status page. If the service is down, wait a while and try again later.
If the status does not show that Apple Podcasts or iTunes is down, move on to the next solution!
4. Delete and reinstall the Podcasts app
If you still can’t use Podcasts on your iPhone 14 Pro without the app crashing, try to reinstall the app. If the app has become corrupted or there’s an incompatibility with some other software on the device, reinstalling a fresh copy might solve the problem, especially if there’s a newer version. Afterward, install a fresh version from the App Store.
5. Restart your iPhone
If installing a fresh copy of the Podcast app didn’t do the trick, it’s a good idea to restart your device. That will flush out any corrupt data that might be causing a conflict and let you start fresh after just a minute or two. You can do this by going to Settings > General and tap Shut Down.
6. Restart Wi-Fi router
Another tip to resolve iPhone 14 Pro Podcast frequently crashing is to restart your router. The Apple Podcasts app has, in the past, experienced a bug relating to your device’s internet connection. Before doing anything drastic, try triggering a reconnection of your internet by restarting your router. You can do this by switching off the router using its power button or the wall switch. After a few seconds, turn it back on.
7. Reset network settings
Less commonly, your phone’s network settings might need to be reset to allow certain online services like Podcasts to work properly. Please note: resetting your network will wipe out all your saved network configurations, including Bluetooth devices and WiFi network names and passwords, so you’ll need to log back into those networks manually. If you want to try, though, you can reset your network settings on iPhone by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
8. Reset all settings
Especially if Podcasts crashes no matter what you try to play, it might be time to reset your iPhone settings. You can do this by going to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset all Settings.
9. Backup your iPhone and set it up as new
If iPhone 14 Pro Podcasts app keeps crashing after trying the above solutions, you might want to consider resetting your iPhone to factory settings. Before you do anything, please back up your device. This is more important than anything because, once you isolate the issue, you can go back and install your fresh backup (or just start over, it’s kind of refreshing to start with a new system).
After you’ve backed up your device, follow these steps to completely wipe it clean.
- Start the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
- Enter your device’s passcode if prompted.
- Tap Backup Then Erase if you haven’t backed up your device yet. Otherwise, tap Erase Now.
When the process is complete, you’ll see the initial “Welcome” window. Normally, you’d select “Restore from a backup,” but you’ll actually want to select “Set up as new iPhone.
After setting up your iPhone, open the Apple Podcasts app and see if it works. If it does, that’s great. If that still didn’t work, there’s one last thing to do.
10. Contact Apple Support
If you’re still having issues (iPhone 14 Pro Podcasts app crashes every day without fail) then consider taking your device to Apple for repair, particularly if you’re still under warranty or AppleCare. Even if your device isn’t under warranty, you should be able to make a free Genius Bar appointment and have Apple run diagnostics on your device to ascertain whether or not the hardware is to blame. You’ll only get charged if you agree to repairs and surrender your device.
