- An outdated operating system
- Interference from your charger or other accessories
How to fix an iPhone 14 Plus Touch Screen that’s not working
Here’s how to fix an iPhone 14 Plus screen that doesn’t respond to your touches, swipes and gestures, and generally isn’t working the way it should:
1. Clean off your screen, and hands
Dirt, dust, or moisture can interfere with how the iPhone’s capacitative touchscreen works. As such, anyone facing an unresponsive screen should try cleaning it. Use a dry microfiber cloth and gently wipe the screen from top to bottom until it looks more or less spotless.
Also, make sure your hands are clean and dry when you’re using your iPhone 14 Plus. If your fingers are wet, the touch screen may not respond.
2. Restart your iPhone 14 Plus
The next thing to try if you find your iPhone 14 Plus touchscreen not working should be obvious: Restart your phone.
Try restarting it normally by simultaneously holding the Side button and Volume Up/Down button If your touchscreen is still responsive enough to swipe the Slide to Power Off slider, swipe it. Then, hold the Side button(or Top button) until it boots up again.
Of course, you may find that your touchscreen is so unresponsive that you can’t even shut your iPhone down normally. In this case, try a force restart.
press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, and then hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
In most cases, restarting your iPhone 14 Plus will fix an unresponsive touchscreen, so this should be the first thing you try before attempting anything else.
3. Remove any cases or screen protectors
Screen protectors are usually very thin these days, but in certain rare cases, they may be the reason why your iPhone 14 Plus touchscreen isn’t working. As such, you should check to see whether your screen protector has been applied properly to your iPhone’s touchscreen. If it hasn’t, try removing and reapplying it or reapplying a new protector if you have one available.
Even if your screen protector has been applied properly, try removing it. It may be the case that, for whatever reason, it’s been interfering with how your touchscreen operates. If your iPhone 14 Plus touchscreen does begin working properly after removing it, you may want to consider either forgoing a screen protector or buying a new (possibly thinner) one.
4. Let your iPhone cool down
The iPhone 14 Plus touch screen dosen’t work properly when it’s really hot. In fact, your iPhone may display a warning if its temperature rises beyond a certain level. You won’t be able to use it until it cools down. The best way to allow your iPhone to reach a comfortable operating temperature is to turn it off. In case you can’t do that, lock the device and don’t use it for a while. Once the screen becomes responsive again, close power-hungry apps like Maps and Camera (if they were open). Next, turn off your iPhone and after waiting for at least a minute, turn it back on.
Note: Your iPhone may heat up significantly with wireless chargers and fast chargers.
5. Remove from charging and use a different charger, power outlet, or power bank
If the iPhone 14 Plus screen is not responding to touch with a particular third-party charging adapter, use a different one. Before that, you should also try another wall outlet with that same charger. In case you’re using a power bank, unplug your iPhone from it and use a charging adapter.
6. Disconnect all cables from your iPhone 14 Plus
Unplug any external device you have connected to your iPhone’s charging port. After that, try using the touchscreen. If it works, that means the fault was caused due to the external device.
7. Does Your iPhone 14 Plus Touch Screen Stop Working When You Use A Specific App?
If you notice your iPhone 14 Plus touch screen frequently stops working when you’re using a specific app, it’s likely an issue with the app, not your phone. Try closing and reopening the app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the app switcher. Then, swipe up on the app to close it.
It might also help to check if this app has an update available. If the software isn’t up to date, the app’s software could be encountering bugs causing your iPhone 14 Plus to freeze. Open the App Store and tap on your profile icon in the upper right corner. Scroll down and install any available app updates.
If you tried closing, reopening and updating the app, and your iPhone 14 Plus touch screen still isn’t working, we suggest deleting it and trying to find an alternative app. To do this, press and hold on the app icon and tap Remove App. Next, tap Delete App. Finally, tap Delete to confirm.
8. Update your iPhone 14 Plus
Assuming that you’ve tried the two steps above and your iPhone 14 Plus touchscreen still isn’t responding, you should next try updating your iPhone by connecting it to your computer. You won’t be able to update it normally (due to the unresponsive touchscreen) and will instead have to put it into Recovery Mode before updating.
Here’s what you do:
Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable. If you’re running MacOS Catalina 10.15 (or higher), launch Finder. If you’re running MacOS Mojave 10.14 (or earlier) — or Windows (on a PC) — launch iTunes.
Step 2: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, and then press the Side button until the Recovery Mode screen appears.
Step 3: A window will appear on your computer, giving you the option to Restore or Update your iPhone. Click Update.
9. Dry the iPhone out if it got wet
It’s important to understand the difference between water-resistant and waterproof. A water accident can permanently damage your iPhone’s internals if you leave it on. Thus, in such scenarios, your best course of action is to shut down the device and wait for it to dry.
Believe it or not, putting your phone in rice is one of the best ways to dry it out if it has been accidentally dropped in water.
10. Factory reset iPhone 14 Plus
Updating your device should resolve any software-related issues that may be causing your iPhone 14 Plus touchscreen to freeze. However, if it still doesn’t work, it may possibly be worth performing a factory reset on your iPhone.
If your iPhone 14 Plus touchscreen is not responding at all, you won’t be able to back it up before performing a factory reset. Neither backing up via the iPhone itself or via a computer will be possible since even connecting it as normal to a computer requires you to tap Trust on your iPhone.
Nonetheless, you may still want to go ahead and perform a factory reset without an up-to-date backup. To do this, follow the three steps outlined in the section above, but in this case, click Restore at the end of the process rather than Update.
11. Contact Apple Support
If you’ve tried all of the fixes above and your iPhone 14 Plus touch screen remains unresponsive, you’re probably dealing with a bigger hardware issue. We recommend contacting Apple Support for further help.
