Is Back Tap not working on your iPhone 14 Pro? Are you double or triple tapping the back of your device, but predefined actions like Flashlight or Screenshot, are not executed? This can be caused by a minor glitch that can be easily fixed! In this article, I’ll explain why Back Tap is not working on your iPhone 14 Pro and show you how to fix the issue.
With Back Tap in iPhone 14 Pro, a quick double or triple tap on the back of your iPhone can open Control Center, take a screenshot, trigger accessibility-specific actions, and more. However, as with any iOS feature, you may encounter situations where Back Tap may not work as expected. If you’re having trouble getting Back Tap to work on your iPhone 14 Pro, the steps below should help you fix the issue.
Note: information in this article apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
1. Turn on Back Tap
Back Tap won’t work on iPhone 14 Pro unless you activate the feature. Here’s how you can turn on the feature:
- Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch, and tap Back Tap.
- Tap Double Tap or Triple Tap and choose an action.
- Double or triple tap on the back of your iPhone to trigger the action you set.
You can even set a double or triple tap to trigger an Accessibility Shortcut to quickly access features like AssistiveTouch, Siri Shortcuts, Magnifier, Reachability, and VoiceOver.
2. Force Restart iPhone
The most popular troubleshooting step works in this case too. Hard reboot your iPhone 14 Pro and Back Tap should start working again.
Press & quickly release Volume Up button, press and quickly release Volume Down button, press and hold the Side Button until the Apple logo is displayed on the screen!
3. Remove Your Phone Case.
Normally, the Back Tap feature works even you have a case over it, however, some iPhone cases can be a bit too thick for your taps to register. Try removing your iPhone case and double or triple tap the back of your phone to test this.
4. Re-Enable Back Tap
If back tap is not working on your iPhone 14 Pro after trying the above solution, turn the feature Off and then back On:
Open Settings and tap on Accessibility.
Tap on Touch.
Scroll down and tap on Back Tap.
Set both Double Tap and Triple Tap to None.
Force quit Settings from the App Switcher, re-open it and re-enable Back Tap!
5. update iOS
If Back Tap fails to record even though everything is set up correctly, try updating your iPhone. This can help fix software-related anomalies that prevent you from using the feature.
- Go to settings.
- Tap on general.
- Tap software updates.
- If an update is available, tab download & install.
6. Reset all settings
Corrupted or corrupt settings can also prevent Back Tap from working on your iPhone. Try resetting them to check if that helps.
Note: Resetting the settings will undo all system-related settings and delete all saved Wi-Fi networks on your iPhone. Then expect to spend some time reconfiguring your iPhone. However, you will not lose any of your data.
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset and tap Reset All Settings to start the reset procedure. After reset dive into the Accessibility screen, set Back Tap and try using the feature. In most cases, it should start working properly.
7. Opt For a Factory Reset
If all of the fixes on this list don’t work and you still can’t find the issue, you might need to perform a factory reset. Resetting your iPhone to factory defaults might be the solution for a problem you couldn’t find no matter how hard you look for it.
Before you perform a factory reset, make sure to back up all of your important files as the reset will erase all data stored on your phone. Once you’ve performed a backup, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings. Once everything’s been reset, set up your iPhone again, and check if the back tap feature is working. If it does, that’s great. If that still didn’t work, there’s one last thing to do.
8. Contact Apple Support
There are times when you’ve done everything and nothing has solved the issue, not even a complete factory reset. If this happens to you, then the problem might not be your settings or your operating system. Sometimes, iPhone 14 Pro Back Tap problems can occur due to hardware problems.
If you’ve done everything, from restarting your iPhone to a complete factory reset, it may be best to visit the nearest Apple Store. Have the technicians go under the hood of your device and see if your problem lies there.
