Are you swiping around your iPhone 14 Pro but the screen is responding? It can be frustrating, especially if you’re trying to get work done. In this article, I’ll explain why your iPhone 14 Pro touchscreen is not working and show you how to fix the problem.
Note: Information in this article apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
You probably touch your iPhone’s screen hundreds of times per day. Combined with its delicate glass build, it’s no surprise that iPhone’s touchscreens are one of the most common components to experience problems.
But the touch screen not working on your iPhone 14 Pro isn’t always brought about by hardware failure. If your iPhone 14 Pro touchscreen often isn’t working or fails to respond, there’s a lot you can do before visiting the Apple Store.
Before you start troubleshooting, it’s important to get to the root of the problem, trying to figure out the reasons why the iPhone 14 Pro touch screen stops working or freezing out of the blue.
Why Is My iPhone 14 Pro Touch Screen Not working?
An iPhone 14 Pro touchscreen can stop working for several reasons. For example, a brief hiccup in iOS could render it unresponsive. While this is often the simplest cause of unresponsiveness, other factors like moisture, debris and app glitches can all have an effect.
In the absence of these issues, there’s a possibility the screen could be damaged because of an accident. This situation may call for repairs or replacements. That said, you can save time and energy by trying a few quick do-it-yourself fixes first.
How to Fix an iPhone 14 Pro Touch Screen that’s not working
Here are a few fixes to try if your iPhone 14 Pro touchscreen is not working.
1. Reboot Your iPhone
A good-old reboot might sound futile to fix such an advanced issue. However, it’s often one of the most successful ways to fix an unresponsive touch screen on iPhone 14 Pro. Restarting your iPhone shuts down and refreshes all background services, which could have crashed and led to your issue.
Press and hold the Side and either of the volume buttons to display the power off slider, then drag the slider if you’re able.
If you’re unable to drag the power off slider, you can hard reset your iPhone. Performing a hard reset on your iPhone forces your phone to turn off and back on again. If your screen is frozen, this can help to fix it. Press and quickly release the “Volume Up” button. Press and quickly release the “Volume Down” button. Hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. Release the Side button.
2. Make sure your device and hands are clean
Moisture, debris and oils on your hands or device can impact screen performance. We recommend washing and drying your hands and then wiping down the device with a soft cloth before trying the device again.
3. Check the screen protector
If you find your iPhone 14 touch screen not working in some areas, the protector on top may be the issue. Ensure that it’s correctly applied to the surface, or consider taking off the case to reapply it. As well, once you take off the protector, test the touch screen to see how well it responds. Should it become responsive at this point, you may want to consider a thinner protector.
4. Update your iPhone
If your iPhone 14 Pro touch screen is not working, but only intermittently, then you may be able to update your device. Older versions of software often come with bugs that updates are designed to fix. Ensuring that your phone is up to date may resolve the iPhone 14 Pro touchscreen not working issue. You can find available software updates by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
5. Does Your iPhone 14 Pro Touch Screen Stop Working When You Use A Specific App?
If you notice your iPhone 14 Pro touch screen frequently stops working when you’re using a specific app, it’s likely an issue with the app, not your phone. Try closing and reopening the app by swiping up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the app switcher. Then, swipe up on the app to close it.
It might also help to check if this app has an update available. If the software isn’t up to date, the app’s software could be encountering bugs causing your iPhone 14 to freeze. Open the App Store and tap on your profile icon in the upper right corner. Scroll down and install any available app updates.
If you tried closing, reopening and updating the app, and your iPhone 14 Pro touch screen still isn’t working, we suggest deleting it and trying to find an alternative app. To do this, press and hold on the app icon and tap Remove App. Next, tap Delete App. Finally, tap Delete to confirm.
6. Free up iOS Storage
When an iPhone has zero storage available, things tend to go haywire in general, and that can include experiencing an unresponsive touch screen. Make sure your iPhone has storage available on the device. You can check this in Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Aim to have at least a few hundred MB available if not a few GB, as iOS really starts underperforming with less space available.
7. Avoid Extreme Temperatures
Overheating issue could cause your iPhone 14 Pro touch screen to not work properly. In fact, your phone may display a warning if its temperature rises beyond a certain level. You won’t be able to use it until it cools down, so find a place for it to do so.
8. Water Accident? Let It Dry
It’s important to understand the difference between water-resistant and waterproof. A water accident can permanently damage your iPhone’s internals if you leave it on. Thus, in such scenarios, your best course of action is to shut down the device and wait for it to dry.
Believe it or not, putting your phone in rice is one of the best ways to dry it out if it has been accidentally dropped in water.
9. Factory Reset Your iPhone
If you’ve tried everything else and your iPhone 14 Pro touch screen is still not working, you may need to perform a factory reset. This can help fix deeper software problems that may be causing an unresponsive touch screen. We strongly recommend backing up your iPhone before completing this step, as the factory reset will erase all of your data and settings from the device.
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down and tap General.
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Select Erase All Content & Settings.
- Tap Continue.
- You will likely have to enter your passcode to confirm the reset. Your phone will then restart and wipe all apps and other files from your device. Your settings will all be returned to their factory defaults.
10. If All Else Fails, Visit an Apple Store
With these possible fixes, you should hopefully be able to fix your iPhone 14 Pro touchscreen problem if it’s just a software bug. Otherwise, you will have to visit an Apple Store for help. If you’re lucky, an Apple technician will be able to restore the touchscreen’s functions, although depending on the damage, it may be a pricey repair.
