Wearable Devices: A Look at IoT through Apple’s Eyes

Last Updated: November 1, 2022 by Kevin Shaw

Wearable devices allow us to interact with the world in new and exciting ways. As these devices become more commonplace and available to consumers, there is an increasing need to develop applications that take advantage of this technology.

Apple has been at the front line of wearable device development with their Apple Watch. This device is a prime example of how wearable devices are usable with other technologies to enhance our lives. Other examples of wearable technology include:

  • VR hearing aids
  • Fitness trackers
  • VR headsets

What Do Apple’s IoT Stands For?

IoT stands for “Internet of Things.” It refers to any device, appliance, or product connected to the internet. It includes everything from your thermostat to your refrigerator to your car. The idea is that devices like these can talk to each other and send and receive data back and forth over the internet.

How Apple IoT Operates

It’s a network of physical objects that are uniquely identifiable through embedded computing devices and software which enables these objects to exchange data, typically over the Internet. IoT is the concept of connecting any device to the Internet.

The IoT provides a link between the physical world and your digital one. So, if you want to get started with IoT, all you need to do is pick up an Arduino or Raspberry Pi board, connect it to your home router and start programming.

For instance, you want a new bedside lamp for your bedroom. You search online for one on Amazon—just as you would with any other purchase. But instead of just searching for “bedside lamps” in general, you search for “bedside lamps” and “smart”—and you’ll find several items that fit the bill.

In this scenario, the smart features add value to the object by allowing it to connect with other products or services over the internet so they can communicate with each other (like your smartphone).

IoT Hardware of Apple

Internet of things apple devices started from the first Mac to the iPhone; Apple has been known for building beautiful and innovative products. With their IoT hardware, they’re taking a new approach that focuses on simplifying your home while providing more functionality.

Apple’s IoT hardware provides a secure and reliable way to connect devices. It includes two main components: the Apple HomeKit-enabled hub and the Apple TV.

The HomeKit platform was one of Apple’s first pieces of IoT hardware. It enables users to connect their devices through an app called Home, which can be downloaded from iTunes or the App Store on any iPhone or iPad running iOS 9 . The app controls all of your connected devices, including lights, thermostats, locks, doorbells, and more.

The first product released under the HomeKit brand was the Apple TV. This device lets you control your home from anywhere in the world by using Siri voice commands and an interface similar to that found on other smart TVs and streaming boxes like Roku or Amazon Fire TV Stick .

Since then, many products have been released under this label: For example, there’s an air conditioner called Nest Learning Thermostat; an alarm clock called Alarm Clock Radio with Timely; a smart lock called Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt.

How to Connect Devices with Apple HomeKit

  • Go to the Apple Home app, tap the top-right icon (the house), and then tap Add Accessory.
  • Find the device you want to connect, and then follow the instructions onscreen to set up your accessory.
  • Once you’ve paired your accessory, it shows up in the Home app as a new device with a gray dot next to its name. It means it’s connected but not yet configured for use with Apple HomeKit.
  • Tap Configure under Device Details in the sidebar on the left side of the screen, then follow the instructions onscreen to set up your accessory so that it can be controlled by Siri or remote access (Apple TV).

Apple IoT Healthcare Devices

Apple is making a foray into the healthcare industry with its new line of IoT-enabled devices. The release of this new product line has been met with much excitement by consumers, who are eager to have their health records stored on their own devices and available at all times.

The company’s new device, the Apple Health Watch, is a smartwatch that can store all your medical information in one place, including blood pressure and glucose levels. It makes it easy for patients to see how well they’re doing over time and make changes if needed.

In addition to these features, the watch can be used as an emergency alert system during an accident. It will send notifications from 911 if your heart rate goes too high or if you fall unconscious for more than ten seconds. The device will even send alerts to your loved ones, so they know what happened and can help you immediately if necessary.

The Apple Health Watch is just one piece of an entire ecosystem of products designed specifically for healthcare purposes. Other devices include an inhaler that tracks how much medicine was taken each day (so no more guessing.) and several other apps that track exercise habits.

To set Apple Watch for emergency purposes, follow these steps

  • Start the Settings app on your iPhone and tap Health
  • Tap Emergency SOS on the left and then tap Auto Call to enable it
  • Enter a phone number to call in case of emergency and tap done

What Apple’s Wearable Future May Hold

Apple’s wearable future may hold a lot of exciting possibilities, but the company has been relatively quiet about what’s next for its products.

One possibility is that Apple will continue to lead in innovative wearable technology for decades. The Apple Watch already offers many valuable features and capabilities—such as health tracking, GPS navigation, messaging services, and more—and it seems likely that Apple will continue to invest in these areas.

Another possibility is that Apple will use its expertise in the internet of things (IoT) devices to create more wearable IoT devices that can communicate with each other. It could include watches or wearable technology that can communicate with other IoT devices like speakers or computers. These devices would be able to interact with each other to provide new levels of convenience and ease of use for consumers.

Final Thoughts

Apple Company has been at the forefront of wearable internet of things devices for a long time, showing no signs of slowing down. The company has demonstrated an ability to stay ahead of the curve regarding new technologies, which will be especially true with IoT.

In fact, Apple’s wearable devices are already the most popular on the market. The future of Apple wearable devices is bright—and it’s going to be filled with new ways for us to use technology. As a lover of wearable devices, Apple makes your life simple each day.
