A backup allows you copy and save information to your iPhone. If you just bought an iPhone 13, you can use a backup to transfer your information to your new device. In this article, we’ll explain how to backup your iPhone 13 using iTunes, Finder or iCloud – step-by-step.

Personal data stored on smartphones is valuable for almost everyone. This includes contacts, messages, photos, videos, bookmarks and more. Unlike Android, where you need to take backup from the third party, Apple has made the entire procedure quite simple with iCloud, iTunes and Finder. If you own an iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13 Pro Max, there are various ways in which you can backup all the data. You can use either iCloud or your computer. It’s good to be familiar with both ways before you back up your device and choose the best among the two methods

Before we get started, its good we learn the difference between iCloud backups and backups you make using your computer.

iCloud Backup

How to back up your iPhone 13 with iCloud

  1. Connect your iPhone 13 to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Navigate to settings > your name and tap iCloud
  3. Tap iCloud backup
  4. Tap Back Up Now. Stay connected to your Wi-Fi network until the process ends.

And that’s it. That’s all you need to do to back up your iPhone 13 to iCloud. Keep in mind you only have 5GB of base storage space, though. If you have more than that in photos, videos, or important files, it might be best to save them onto a computer or buy more iCloud storage.

How to back up your iPhone 13 with computer

When you are using your computer, your stores backups are in either Mac or PC.

Firstly let’s look about backups on your Mac. When you are using your Mac, it’s good to know which macOS you are using. There are two types of macOS, that is macOS Catalina or newer and macOS Mojave or older. The process of backing up these two Mac’s is different and we are going to look at each of the process.

Back up iPhone 13 with Finder on Mac

  1. On a Mac running macOS Catalina or newer, launch the Finder window
  2. Build a connection between your iPhone and computer using a USB cable
  3. If asked for your iPhone passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen prompts
  4. Locate your device on your computer.
  5. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your device or Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup. Select the Encrypt local backup, check and create a memorable password
  6. Click Back Up Now
  7. When the process ends, you can see if the backup is finished successfully and you will see the data and time of your last backup.

Back up iPhone 13 with iTunes on Mac

  1. On a Mac running macOS Mojave or older, launch iTunes
  2. Build a connection between your iPhone 13 and computer using a USB cable.
  3. If asked for your iPhone passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen instructions
  4. Select your device on your computer
  5. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your device or Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup. Select Encrypt local backup checkbox and create a memorable password
  6. Click Back Up Now. When the process ends, you can see if the backup is finished successfully. You will see the data and time of your last back up

How to backup iPhone 13 with iTunes

Back up iPhone 13 with iTunes on PC

  1. On your Windows PC, launch iTunes. If you don’t have it installed on your PC you can download.
  2. Build a connection between your iPhone 13 and computer using a USB cable.
  3. If asked for your iPhone passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen prompts
  4. Select your device in iTunes
  5. Click Summary
  6. If you want to save Health and Activity data from your device or Apple Watch, you need to encrypt your backup. Select the Encrypt local backup checkbox and create a memorable password.
  7. Click Backup now. When the process is complete, you can see if the backup finished successfully. You will see the date and time of your backup.

POINTS TO NOTE

iCloud backups

iCloud backups include nearly all the data and settings stored on your device, but don’t include the following:

  • Data that is already stored in iCloud, like contacts, Calendars, Notes, iCloud Photos, iMessages, Voice Memos, text {SMS} and multimedia {MMS}, messages.
  • Data stored in other cloud services, like Gmail and Exchange mail
  • Apple Mail data
  • Apple Pay information and settings
  • Face ID or Touch ID settings
  • iCloud Music Library and App Store content

Backups from your computer

A computer backup of your device, which is not the same as sync, includes almost all of your device data and settings, but does not include the following:

  • Content from the iTunes and App Store, or PDFs downloaded directly to Apple Books
  • Content synced from finder or iTunes, like imported MP3s or CDs, videos, book and photos
  • Data already stored in iCloud, like iCloud Photos, iMessages, text {SMS} and multimedia {MMS} messages
  • Face ID or Touch ID settings
  • Apple Pay information and settings
  • Apple Mail data
  • Activity, Health and Keychain data.
